Obituary of Francesca Maria Lagrotteria Monterosso
MONTEROSSO, Francesca Maria Lagrotteria (March 9, 1935 - May 31, 2025) - On Saturday, May 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, Francesca passed peacefully into eternal life with God our Father. Born in Monterosso, Calabro, Italy, she married the love of her life, Nicola Monterosso in 1954. In 1955, they immigrated to Rouyn, Noranda, Quebec. A loving and dedicated wife, she remained by Nicola’s side for 62 years. Francesca was a strong and determined woman; always a proud Italian, she embraced life in Canada, learning French and then English. After becoming a mother to three children, Francesca was a dedicated employee at the St. Catharines General Hospital for 22 years. She is the much loved mother of Teresa (Bill), Tony (Lucy), and Luciano (Maggie). Cherished and adored nonna of Corina (Michalis), Anthony (Fabiano), Dana (William), James (Celeste), Cory, and Brianna, who she always made laugh with her distinct charm, words of wisdom, and sense of humour. Francesca will be remembered by her beloved great-grandchildren, Isabella and George. Dear sister and immensely loved by her siblings; Angelo, Nazzarena, and the late Domenico (2011). She will be missed by many in both Italy and Canada, including her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cherished cousins, friends, and long-time neighbours. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to staff at Meadows of Dorchester in Niagara Falls for their tremendous support during the last few months of Francesca’s life. The family also extends their gratitude to Dr. Alazragh and Darla Wuhlar for their invaluable support through the years. Our beautiful mother and nonna, thank you for your unconditional love throughout the years. Your courage and determination shall remain with us for life. You will always be our shining light and we know you will rest in peace by the grace of the good Lord you have always cherished. You are now in peace for eternity with your Nicola and departed loved ones. We will always love you! Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines, visiting Thursday June 5, 2025 from 10 to 11:30 am. A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 am at the funeral home. A private Rite of Committal will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill.
