
Obituary of Doreen May Baker
BAKER - Doreen May (nee Mason) - At Westhills Care Centre on Monday, June 2, 2025 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Baker (1983). Loving Mother of Karen Baker-Hendle (Neil), Laura Milne (Glenn) and Carla Vrooman (Steve). Dear grandmother to Joe, Reese, Braedon and Andrea. Beloved daughter of Phyllis and William Edward Mason, loving sister to Shirley Novak and David Mason, all predeceased. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was a longstanding member of the Catholic Women’s League and was a dedicated, decades long Volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at the Hotel Dieu Hospital. She spent many years circulating the floors with a Library Cart distributing reading material to hospitalized patients as well as working in the Gift Shop. Most notably, Doreen developed and oversaw the hospital’s Nevada Pull Ticket program which raised thousands of dollars to help fund programs at the hospital.
The family will receive visitors at George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St on Sunday, June 8th, 2025 from 2-4 & 6-8pm with Vigil prayers at 3:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at The Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 3 Lyman on Monday, June 9th, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. The Rite of Committal will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Therapy Tails, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
