Obituary of Anna Maria D'Alessandro
Our beloved mother, nonna, and bisnonna passed peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 90. Anna now joins her devoted husband, Francesco; their infant daughter, Angela; her parents, Gilda and Antonio; and her brother, Angelo. Anna’s life was centered around family — her unwavering devotion was evident in every moment, every meal, every embrace. She leaves behind her cherished children Tony (Jennifer) and Marisa; treasured grandchildren Matthew, Kyle, Jillian (Bal), Shane (Kristin), Anthony (Nancy); and precious great-grandchildren Arya, Karam, Rohan, Forest, Lewis, Layla, and soon-to-arrive, Isabella. Anna is also lovingly remembered by her sister Ada (Italo) and sister-in-law Giuseppina in Italy, along with many nieces and nephews in both Italy and Canada.
Anna emigrated from Pignataro Interamna, Italy, in 1958, seeking a better life in St. Catharines, Ontario. She embodied the immigrant dream — working tirelessly to create a life of opportunity and love for her family. Whether working multiple jobs or tending to her lush garden, her hands never stopped giving.
Anna cherished lifelong friendships with those from her village and with her work colleagues — bonds built on mutual support through life’s many seasons. Lucky were those who shared her delicious meals, baking, canning, tomato sauce and so many other wonderful treats. Food was her love language — hearty, comforting, and always shared with joy. Even in her final days, the ritual of espresso with a sweet treat — “Just a drop is good, I just want to smell the coffee” — remained a treasured comfort.
Her daily question, on the phone or in person, was always: “How are the kids?” They were the light of her life! Each child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and extended family member received one of her beautiful crocheted blankets, and of course, a pair of her famously “unique” slippers — no bare feet please!
We are deeply grateful to Anna’s private caregivers, Joan and Kathleen, who became part of our family over the past few years. Anna adored them, and their kindness and support meant the world to her and to all of us. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to BeHome Nursing and their exceptional team for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Anita, Sheri, Evelyn, and Muna, who have been with Anna since the beginning of her journey.
