Obituary of Valerie Margaret Jones
Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, Valerie passed away at Hospice Niagara at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Michael Jones for over 60 years. Cherished mother of Matthew, Simon, Soraya (Ronnie) Sweet, and Melissa (Jonathan) Wetselaar. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren—Brittany (Eric) Nickason, Cole Adshead, Dakota, Joshua, and Tye Sweet and Luke Jones—and was a proud great-grandmother to Benson and Ryatt Nickason.
Dear sister of her beloved twin, Molly Piane, and predeceased by her siblings Dorothy Huntsdale and Sydney Sainsbury.
Valerie lived a vibrant and creative life. She was spunky and full of spirit, right to the end. A talented and artistic woman, she loved playing the piano by ear, painting, and decorating her home. An avid reader of Country Living Magazine for over 50 years, she drew endless inspiration for her creative projects.
She adored animals—especially her cats—and found joy in sewing, often making skirts from curtains or adding her own touches to hats and clothing. She loved cooking for neighbors, dressing up to meet friends at the mall, and could strike up a lively conversation anywhere she went. Valerie was known for her warmth, her humour, and her zest for life.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice Niagara for their exceptional care and compassion. Valerie often said she felt like she was at a “Swiss spa” during her final days.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Forever loved, dearly missed, and remembered for her laughter, creativity, and boundless love of life.
