Watching someone close to you grieving can be very difficult. While you want to be there in that challenging period, you might always know how to manage the situation. We at George Darte Funeral Home, have put together a list of tips to follow.

1. Offer Help But Only If You Are Able to Provide it

Empty promises are of no help to a person that has just lost someone. When you tell them that you are there for them and that they can depend on you for anything, make sure you can stand by that commitment.

2. Give Them Space When they Need It

There are times when a person who is in mourning needs a shoulder to cry on. However, there could also be times when they prefer some solitude. You should be able to judge what they need at that point in time and respect their wishes. So if you feel they need some space, give it to them but be there to support them as well.

3. Veer Their Attention Away From Their Sorrow

Family can sometimes be overwhelming when a person is in mourning and most people ultimately have to ignore their pain and sorrow. As a friend, you can be the break they need from their responsibilities. Allow them to focus on their feelings and give them the support they need at a difficult time like this.

4. Lend a Patient Ear

The most effective thing to do is to lend a patient ear. Let the person vent, complain, share their pain or rage. It can help them when they are feeling intense grief.
