Obituary of Mary Ellen Roberts

ROBERTS, Mary Ellen- †œAnd the beautiful music ceased"..... It is with profound sorrow that we announce the exceptional life of Mary Ellen Roberts ended on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013. Mary was a precious, caring, loving and extremely generous lady. She was Director of Music since 1968 at St. Julia Parish. Mary was a vocalist, organist and choir director. She directed the combined choir for the Mount Carmel Christmas concerts in Niagara Falls for many years. Mary was a founding member of the Diocesan Chapter of National Pastoral Musicians, was instrumental in coordinating many workshops and concerts for the pastoral musicians of the Diocese; was a member of the music committee of the Ontario Liturgical Commission, and she was a member of the Liturgy Committee of the Diocese of St. Catharines. Mary was very proud of St. Julia's Choir, special people whom she loved as a second family. Mary will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and exceptional musical talent. She is very sadly missed by her sister Trudy (Jim) McQuinn, nephew Michael (Deborah) McQuinn, grand nieces Julia and Maggie and grand nephew Matthew; many cousins and family members; numerous loving and caring friends, including her life long best friend Donna Stewart. She is predeceased by Mom (Cecilia- 1995), Dad (George-1963) and nephew Peter McQuinn (2011). The family wish to extend a sincere thank you to the professional staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital Emergency Room and ICU staff as well as the Emergency Professionals for all their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, (905)- 937-4444. The family will receive visitors at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church, Glenridge Avenue, St. Catharines on Friday, March 1st from 4p.m. - 6p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 7p.m. at St. Julia Church. A private family interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Kidney Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
