Obituary of Minnie Munro Kennedy

Kennedy, Minnie Munro Sutherland , RN, Lt. N/Sis wwII, Born January 2nd 1917 in Golspie, Scotland Passed May 10th 2010. Held in the loving arms of her granddaughter, Mother, in her 94th year left her last earthly residence, Her †˜Apartment†™, at Linhaven Residence for the Aged, St. Catharines and went home to be with Her Lord. Mother was the youngest daughter of Angus Sutherland & Elizabeth McIvor. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bernard, sister Margaret & Gordon Misener, brother George & brother Donald & Marget Sutherland. Grandson Benjamin Angus, great grand daughter Addyson Mary, Bernard†™s parents Joseph & Marie, and siblings, Joseph, Mary & Roy, William, Gerard & Mary Kay & dearly loved cousins Cathy & Will McIntosh, Father Jack Cartwright & Margaret & John Mahoney. Loving Mother of Joseph, John & Nina, Angus & Barbara, Bernie & Wendy. Grandmother of Colin, Tammy, James, Christine, Madison, Bronwyn, Rowan, McIvor, Christopher, Benjamin and Ciaran, great grand mother of Brock, Megan, Payge, Olivia, Owen. Survived by sisters in law Jean Sutherland & Roma Kennedy, nephews, nieces & extended family. A great big Thank You to All the staff of Linhaven who gave Mother meticulous and loving care. Thank you to her many friends from St. Giles Church who visited her during her declining years as her body failed though her mind remained bright & clear until the end. Special thanks to Mildred Mclelland, Rose Robertson, George & Linda Wichert each who in their own special way were there at the times of need. Special thanks to Justyna Piorek whose daily care was as that of a loving daughter to a Mother & was with her at her residence through her move to Linhaven & until the end. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Hyatt & his staff for the years of attentive care prior to her moving to Linhaven. Mother was a deeply religious person with a well founded faith as raised from her infancy. A woman dedicated to her family & friends, a member of St. Giles Church, a pianist in their Sunday school as she was in a Pentecostal Mission during her years of training at St Joseph†™s Hospital in Hamilton. A member of the Red Hat Society & dedicated member of the Grad Nurses Association. Mother was a caring, loving, person who always had a compassionate interest in others. While she had a great love for this Country, where she came as a wee girl, a part of her Heart remained also in the Highlands of Scotland with family left behind. She treasured her early childhood in Golspie where she, as were her siblings, was born in Links Cottage, the Manse of the Free Presbyterian Church where her parents lived as care takers welcoming the Itinerant Ministers. She often talked of her granddad†™s Dramuie Cottage on the outskirts of Golspie & the thrill of her uncle Willie, a train engineer, holding down the whistle as the engine raced south, a long white scarf fluttering in the wind. Of going to school in the misty mornings & the Lions, (cats as she recognized later in her life), she saw upon the stone wall. Of Janetstown by Thurso where her mother was born & she spent summers with her Grannie McIvor of the croft, her cousins around & remain in contact with family to this day. Visitation will be Friday May 14th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street. Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held in St Giles Presbyterian Church, 205 Linwell Road between Lake & Geneva. Celebrated by her friend & Pastor Rev †˜Tijs' Theijsmeijer on Saturday May 15th at 11:00 from where her earthly body will go for cremation with her remains being inurned in the family grave in Victoria Lawn Cemetery in the future. Donations to Linhaven, Covenant House or Sick Children†™s Hospital would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
