Obituary of Thaddeus Francis McCarthy

McCARTHY, Thaddeus (Thad) Francis Hawthorne - In his 92nd year, passed away peacefully at The Henley House in St. Catharines on Saturday, June 19th, 2010. Beloved husband for 66 years of the late Lucy (nee Worsdall) who passed away on May 25, 2010. Cherished father of his five children, Stephen (Diane Thorn), Christine (Richard Dominico), Julie-Ann (Dennis Yates), Jeanine (Bill Spring), and Mary Beth (Sean Doherty).Thad will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Emily McCarthy (Dominic Rossi), Kate McCarthy (Jon Rayner), Paul Dominico (Marcella), Julie Stoter (Richard), Alysha Dominico (Vicky Marrack), Justin Buchowski (Kathleen), Brian Buchowski (Laura Kenzie), Sarah Spring (Jared Pratt), J. Tobin Spring, Rebecca Spring (Darryl Johnston), Cynthia Spring, Peter, Brennan and Connor Doherty. He was also blessed with six great grandchildren. Thad will be sadly missed by his dear sister, Ursula (Carroll/Lecours), and by his sisters in law, Mary (George Worsdall) and Mary (Joe Lyons) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Sarah Ann Hall and John F. McCarthy, by his sister, Mary (Rupert Edwards) and brothers Rudolph, John (Frances/Helen), Justin (Josephine), and Joseph (Geraldine/Theresa). Thad, a man of prayer and a man of love, spent his life helping others, and inspiring all who knew him. In his early career, Thad worked with his own father in the construction business. Later, he became a successful insurance broker (Ajax). His last business, T. F. McCarthy Hearing Aid Service (Niagara Region) succeeded for thirty years. He fostered a love of music in all his children and grandchildren. Thad was a member of St Julia's Choir when it was first formed until he fell ill in 2002. Formerly he was a member of St. Bernadette's (Ajax) Holy Name Society and a Knight of Columbus. Since 2009, Thad has resided at The Henley House where he was dearly loved by the staff and residents. Thad was the COR "Dad" for numerous St. Catharines Catholic Youth Retreats in the 1980s. While he will be sadly missed, he will live on in the memories and hearts of all who knew and loved him. Mr. McCarthy is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 from 2-4p.m. & 6:30-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Julia Church (corner of Glenridge & Glen Morris) on Wednesday, June 23rd at 10 a.m. Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations to Mount Carmel Home or Niagara Youth Orchestra would be appreciated by the family.
