Obituary of Norman Thomson
THOMSON, W. Norman
Passed away peacefully with the love and support of his family and
friends on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the St. Catharines General
Hospital, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Lois for 56 years.
Loving father of Glenn (Margaret) of Waterloo and Donald (Lori) of
Maple Ridge, B.C. Cherished grandfather of Brett and Duncan. He is
survived by his brother in law Jerry Arnold and by his
sisters in law Joan Macauley, Carole Tucker and Ellen (Bernie)
Chisolm.
Norman was born in Montreal in 1929. He met his wife Lois in the
R.C.A.F. reserve and were married in 1954. Norman joined the C.N.R. as an apprentice working on steam locomotives and retired 35 years later as a First Aid and CPR Instructor. Norman and Lois resided in Montreal until 1993 when they moved to St. Catharines. Norman was a Scout Master and continued in Scouting to become the Assistant District Commissioner.
Rt. Wor. Bro. W. Norm Thomson was a member and a Past Master of
Argyle Lodge # 65 G.R.Q., A.F. & A.M. Norm served Argyle Lodge as
master for three years. He was a Grand Lodge Officer in the Grand
Lodge of Quebec (1992). He was a member of St. Andrew's Lodge #661 A.F. & A.M., G.R.C., in St. Catharines and a 32 Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member and Past President of the Scottish Craftsmen's Association of St. Catharines and District. He was an active member of the Probus Club of St. Catharines for many years. A special thank you to the nursing staff and the doctors of the St. Catharines General Hospital for their care and support.
In accordance with Norman's wishes cremation has taken place.
A visitation for Norman will be held at the George Darte Funeral
Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Monday, October 4 from 2-4
p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Masonic Funeral will be held Monday evening at
6:30 p.m. A memorial ceremony celebrating Norman and Lois' lives will
be held in the funeral chapel on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 11 a.m.
If desired memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer
Society.
