Obituary of Jan Van Harten
Van Harten, Jan (John) Surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness, passed away on July 24, 2009 at the age of 77. He is now reunited with his most cherished and beloved wife Helen (2003). He was the loving father of Elsie Carty, Cathy and Brian Hooke, Bea and Larry Borsato, and John and Karen Van Harten. The very best and loved Opa to Michael, Rob, Laurie, T.J., Neil, Keith, Nadine and Nicole. Brother of Mijintje Verwey in Canada, and Dirk (Tini) Van Harten, Co Arp, Corrie Postuma, Gon Cuiper, all of Holland. John will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews both here and in Holland. Predeceased by his parents, parents in law, his son in law Mike Carty, and his sisters Jannie, and Nel, and brothers Kees and Jaap.
John was a G.M. retiree, a member and past director of Club Netherlands and a long time member of the Pioneers Klaverjas Club.
John is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Friends may call on Sunday July 26, 2009 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday July 27, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with cremation to follow. memorial remembrances made to the Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
