Obituary of Wallace Thorne

THORNE, Wallace "Wally" With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Wally on Monday, October 12, 2009 at the age of 70. Devoted husband and best friend of Norma (n�©e Pontello) for 50 years, loving father of Teri Enns (Harold), Troy Thorne (Anne) and Todd Thorne (Vivian), and much loved grandfather of Bryn, Emily, Wesley, Drew, Brent, Hilary, Hayley and Beth. Wally is also survived by his brother, Bill (Peggy), his brothers-in-law Angelo (Margaret) Pontello and Cecil (Diane) Pontello and many extended relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his father Bert and mother Unice (n�©eYungblut). Wally suffered a stroke but passed peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital surrounded by family. Wally will be forever remembered for his kind soul, quick wit and unwavering loyalty. An avid sportsman, Wally played basketball, tennis, volleyball, golfed and curled. He will be inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 17th for his outstanding contribution to the St. Catharines Athletics Junior and Senior teams. In accordance with Wally's wishes cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday, Oct. 15th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Denis Church, 230 Lake Street, on Friday Oct. 16th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Society Canada would be greatly appreciated.
