A Great Guy
I met John and Dell only briefly in August 2008 when I visited them to interview John about his memories of his mother, Elizabeth "Liz" Hutchison-Peterson, as part of my research into the Hutchisons from Carluke, Scotland. She was Aunt Liz but was actually my grand aunt through my mother.
John was a very hospitable, gregarious, interesting fellow who showed me his house, fed and watered me (not just with water) and toured me around Niagara-on-the-Lake when not entertaining me in the backyard.
It was a privilege to meet someone of his generation, the last one in our extended family. And to find such fine relatives, no matter how distant, after so many years.
Rest in Peace, John

Auntie Dell, Eric, Janet and Chris, Sorry we couldn't be there, Uncle Johnny was a wonderful man and I always wanted to renew our friendship and family ties, but life and family sometimes just seems to be all consuming. My Memories are of a very loving and generous man who would do anything for you and I'll think of him often. Unfortunately my immediate family never met him, but I have talked of him often as they are quite interested in our Peterson family heritage. Unfortunately, I could not be there as my son Greg was in the Northern Ontario Hockey League tournament of Champions this weekend and as a goal tender he backstopped his team to beat Hearst in the semi's early this morning and won game MVP in beating Sudbury 4-3 in the finals this afternoon. We're heading to Toronto for the Ontario Midget "AA' championship on the weekend of April 9, so if any of you are in the area we'd love to see you. Again, I truly loved John, thank him for his generosity and happy, loving demenour and will miss him dearly and hope that all of you will celebrate his wonderful and beautiful life. Love you all! Peter, Jan , Liz and Greg

Dear Eric,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear father. I am so sorry about your loss.
Although I never met your father, I know how much he meant to you. Through your stories of trips to Nascar races and baseball games with him, I feel as though I knew him. I know he was a fine man and that his absence will be felt by many people.
When my father died, it gave me a good feeling to talk with people about him. I would enjoy hearing more about your father and his life if you would like to share memories when we get together. In the meantime, I will be thinking of you and your family.
I wish I had words that could make your pain less. But at least you know my thoughts are with you and your family as you grieve.
With deep sympathy,
Sebastien
