Obituary of Daniel McGarry
McGarry, Daniel - October 10, 1933 - November 30, 2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dan at the age of 75, surrounded by his family. Dan was an officer in the Merchant Navy and also served two years in H.L.I. (Highland Light Infantry). Dan traveled around the world as an engineer for Continental Can Company in Chicago and arrived in Canada 30 years ago and employed at Port Weller Dry Docks. Proud member of the Celtic Club and fierce supporter of his beloved Celtic F.C. Beloved husband and best friend of Isabell for 47 years. Proud father of Karyne (Craig) and Daniel John (Sarah).Beloved Papa of Austin, Megan, Paige and Quinn. Brother to May, Josephine and Patricia. Dear Brother-in-Law of Thomas, Josephine (Ben), Ann and Sandra (Larry) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Best friend of James Loughlin, Roy Collins, John Carr, Tony Stewart and Allan Aitken, among many others. The family would like to thank the SCGH, specifically Dr. Bertley, Dr. Casselman and nurses Jasmine and Janet in ICU for their care and compassion. Right until the end, Dan left this world the way he lived his life - under his own terms with grace and dignity. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday December 2 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday December 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Denis Church on Thursday December 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. followed by rite of committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association would be sincerely appreciated.
