Obituary of Angie Pastore

PASTORE, Angelo - It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing, after a short illness, of Angie at Henley House on February 7, 2009 in his 93rd year. He is now at peace and has gone to be with his beloved wife, the late Maxine (Dec. 31, 2008). They recently celebrated their anniversary of 66 years of marriage on December 26, 2008.Much loved father of Denise (Mitch,1981) Dmytrow, Tricia (Gary) Rodgers, Mike (Cathy, 2006) Pastore. Cherished and lovingly remembered grandfather of David (Gina), Jeff (Sarah) and Greg (Jodi Johnson) Dmytrow, Jennifer Rodgers, Michael (Desiree Lajeunesse) Rodgers, Shannon (Bill) Pendleton and Matt (Emily Barker) Pastore. Loved great grandfather Mitchell, Carter, Megan, Aaron, Zachary and Jackson. They always brought a smile to Angie and Maxine's face. Angie will be sadly missed by his many many friends, especially Hugh Cosgrove. Angie will always be remembered for his generosity, sense of humour, for always being there for his family and friends and his love of sports. He played on a basketball scholarship at Syracuse University where he was also an outstanding baseball player. After coming to St. Catharines in 1940, he spent many years playing and coaching basketball, as well as coaching baseball. He was inducted into the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. One of his biggest highlights was coaching Merriton high school to the Central Ontario School Championship. It was the smallest school in history to ever win this title. He also served on the St. Catharines Standard High School Basketball Tournament Committee for 25 years. The family wishes to express a special thank you to all (BOLDTHE WORD ALL) the staff at Henley House, especially Morningstar Mill for all their kindness and compassion during the past two months. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Wednesday February 11, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Thursday February 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Mitchell Dmytrow Scholarship Fund would be appreciated by the family.
