Obituary of John Robert Shiels

SHIELS JOHN ROBERT (Jack) Has gone fishing.... Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 7, 2009, in his 78th year. He leaves behind his loving wife and forever sweetheart, Marj, of 51 years. Loving daddy of Lynn (Eugene) D'Antonio and Brenda (Ken) McDonald. Cherished Pa to Kenneth, Cassidy and Jonathon McDonald, Lindsey and Trista D'Antonio. Survived by his mother Ester, sisters Nora (Guenter), Marilyn (Terry), cousins, nieces and nephews. Uncle Jack will be remembered by David, Sarah, Kara and the Heywood family. Jack retired from General Motors in 1987 after 40 years of service. Jack loved nature and had many hobbies, photography, music, carving wood and soap stone, small carpentry work, fishing and hunting. He was always ready to teach these gifts he loved so much. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11am. Memorial remembrances to Wellspring Niagara or St. Catharines General Hospital Oncology Department would be appreciated by the family. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Para Med nurses, Dr. S. Hartman and Dr. Levesque for their compassion and care. A special thanks to everyone who has helped our family through this difficult time, with their love and support.
