Obituary of Peter Baranek

BARANEK, Peter- Born on July 30,1916 in Antoniewo, Poland. Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the age of 92. Predeceased by his siblings in Poland; Stefan, Marysia, and Agnieszka. Beloved husband of Mary and brother to Ludwik in Poland. Loving father of Gladys Dorst, Jane Becker, Mary (Paul Chris), Peter ( Veronica Pytlak ) and Barbara ( Gerry Miele). Cherished grandfather (Dziadzia) of Sherri ( Al Isherwood), Richard Gidney (Amy Morra), Marina, Aaron, Kathryn, Christopher, Stephen and Julia. Great Grandfather (Pradziadzia) of Nicholas, Stephanie and Teagan. Peter was a WW 2 veteran and a prisoner of war in Germany for 6 years. He was a proud member of the Canadian Polish Legion for over 50 years. He came to Canada in 1948 and worked for Hydro at the Deep River and Sir Adam Beck Power Plants. Peter was chief custodian at St. Joseph school where he held that position for many years with great pride. His greatest joy in life was to spend time with his grandchildren. Friends may visit at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street on Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12 from 1-3p.m. & 6-8p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Thursday at 7p.m. in the funeral home. A Legion Service will take place after Vigil Prayers on Thursday in the funeral home.Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, February 13 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 11a.m. Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Those who wish, may make a memorial contribution to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. May Peter's ever beloved Polish Pope John Paul guide him on his final journey as he is reunited with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed!
