Obituary of Gerda Hildegard Moryn
MORYN, Gerda Hildegard (nee Helfer)
Passed away on Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at the Hotel Dieu-Shaver Hospital in her 81st year after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Landau-Pfalz, Germany on November 7, 1929.
Predeceased by her husband Josef (1976) and daughter Catherine (1971). Survived by her daughter Claudia (Dan) Nordin, son Josef and relatives in Germany- brothers Karlheinz (Ursula), Robert (Sieglinde), Kurt (Brigette), and sister Ruth (Erich) Beyler.
Gerda was a graduate of Niagara College and worked at Heidehof Home for the Aged as a Certified Health Care Aide for 25 years. She loved providing care to others throughout her life. Gerda was very active her entire life and completed a hike to San Josef Bay on Vancouver Island in her 80th year. We will miss her positive attitude, artistic talents, wonderful cooking and baking, and company in conversation.
Gerda's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, October 14th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 15th at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 67 Church Street at 10am. Rite of Committal in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 3:45pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hotel Dieu-Shaver Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the nurses at the SCGH-Moore II Palliative Care Unit and the nurses at the Hotel Dieu-Shaver Hospital 2 West and 2 East for their care and compassion.
