Obituary of June Ruby Johnson
Johnson, June - It is with great sadness to announce the passing of June at the age of 82 on Wednesday March 11, 2009 surrounded by her large and loving family at Hospice Niagara. June was born October 26, 1926 in Kitchener Ontario. In 1963, June moved to St. Catharines with her husband Jack to open the Lincoln Curling Centre, later known as the Roller Rink. June was a long time business partner with her husband in many local ventures. She was also a member with Pride of Niagara (formerly known as Tune Twisters). June is survived by her husband Jack of 62 years, sister Joyce Ruetz of Kitchener, brother Jim Mattell of Florida, son Jim (Monika) Johnson, daughters Jayna (Rob) Faragher and Jill (Rob) Foote; grandchildren Dan (Liana) Sweitzer, Jason Sweitzer, Scott Sweitzer (Adriana Luszcyk) , Kate Sweitzer, Jay (Kristen) Johnson, Jessica (Nick) McShane, Kelly Foote, Chris Foote and four great grandchildren. Predecased by her brother Donald Mattell.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street until Monday at 10:30am. Visiting hours are Saturday 2-4pm, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11am at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin Street. Interment will follow the church service at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Catharines General Hospital Walker Cancer Care Centre or Hospice Niagara in June's memory.
