Obituary of Saveria D'Avirro

D'AVIRRO, Saveria "Sara" Jan.4,1926-April 7, 2009 Gone to be with her beloved husband Pasquale "Patsy" (October 13, 1994), Sara passed away after a courageous battle at the Hotel Dieu-Shaver Hospital. Sara left Campodipietra, Italy with her 2 daughters Nella (Ralph) Miller and Mickey (Jack) Murray, and immigrated to Canada in 1951 to join her husband. Life was not easy for her and her family but Sara always worked hard to provide a better life in Canada for her and her family, instilling in them her humble work ethics. She loved her grandchildren Matthew, Martin, Andrea and Allison, and her great grandchildren Ethan and Aivry more than anything in this world. She is predeceased by her parents Martino and Carlotta, her brother Camillo and sister Michelina. Survived by her brothers Gino and Mario D'Alessandro, her sisters Teresa Carlone and Josephine DeLuca. Sara will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and especially her adopted family at Jubilee Place. A special thank you to Hugh and Jackie, and Antonietta and Michelina for their friendship and support, and to Connie, Cheryl and Bwena for the special care they provided to her. We will never forget the compassion and care she received from the staff of 1West at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital. Mrs. D'Avirro's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, April 13th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14th at St. Alfred's Catholic Church, 272 Vine Street at 11am. Entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil prayers for the deceased will be recited in the funeral home on Monday at 3pm . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hotel Dieu-Shaver or the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
