Obituary of Margaret Bridget Opiola
OPIOLA, Margaret Bridget
In the early morning on Monday June 29, 2009, Margaret†™s journey with cancer ended the same way she lived her life †" filled with peace, love, and good friends. As she was greatly loved, so will she be greatly missed and mourned by all who knew her: her very proud and grateful son David; her siblings Tom, Mary (John) Joe (Margaret) and Kathleen (Oliver); her many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England, and Australia; and countless friends, neighbours and all who experienced her smile and greetings. Margaret was predeceased by her beautiful son Michael, and her devoted husband Stanley.
Margaret had a full and happy life, enjoying each and every day with a wide circle of friends. A gentle person with a remarkable affection for people, Margaret endeavoured to make others†™ lives better. Be it with a smile, a simple hello, or her compassion for all she encountered on her walks.
Margaret†™s journey started in Coolnacuppogue, Co. Carlow, Ireland, continued to London England where she trained as a registered nurse, and on to Bradford, England for midwifery training and work, and finally to St. Catharines in 1962 and a job at the Hotel Dieu Hospital. Being a nurse was more than a job, it was a big part of who she was.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all those who accompanied Margaret on her journey through life, and especially those who provided assistance, care and friendship over the past year. Special thanks to all the nurses, you are what makes the health care system work, and to Dr. Giesbrecht for taking the time to talk and listen.
