Obituary of Walter Wladeka
Wladeka, Walter- In the hands of our Lord, the spirit of a loving husband, father, and grandfather is being welcomed back to his Maker. Walter passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in his 88th year, after suffering from a stroke. Beloved husband of Iola for 57 years (November 11, 1950). Greatly loved and respected by his daughter Donna (Greg) Finnie, his son Martin (Cindy), and by his grandchildren Ashley (Chris ) Knight, Tiffany, Brandon, and Samantha. Walter is survived by his very caring twin sister Alice Oakie, and his sister in laws Lina Ricci, Anita Broccolo, and brother in law Ernie (Charlotte) Chiola, and by many nieces and nephews. Walter is predeceased by his daughter Deborah (March 5, 2000), and by his sisters Florence Slack and Olga Akinson, also by his parents Martin and Nellie Wladeka. Walter lived a full life and was a long time employee of Anthes Imperial and Intercity Gas until his retirement. As a member of Dunlop Senior Center, Russell Avenue Community Center, Glenridge Lawn Bowling Club, and the C A W Hall. Walter could be found most afternoon playing cards, dancing, playing shuffleboard, right up until he entered the hospital. Walter was an active member of St. Columba Anglican Church. And a very giving person to various charities, especially World Vision. Therefore in lieu of flowers, we know that Walter would greatly appreciate you giving to World Vision Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Walter's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., on Friday April 11, from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Walter's life will be held in the funeral chapel on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 9:30 a.m., and will be officiated by Reverend Bruce McPetrie of St. Columba Anglican Church. Interment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens following the service. Walter loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Raised a Baptist until his marriage, Walter made a commitment to Jesus at the age 13. Although we will miss Walter and his ability to make us laugh, we take comfort in knowing that he has gone to a better place and he is at peace.
