I'm gone, just a few steps, not far away.
And when you will go there, where I am now
you will ask why you've cried before.

To Gwen and Family: Your John was an exceptional man. He was brilliant, not only in composing and playing music, but in his ability to see the potential and bring out the best in his students. He was always so kind and gentle - he never lost his patience in spite of the ups and downs of running a studio. Often there were two or more students (and parents) clamouring for his attention at the same time. At the beginning of Christmas Concert practise when groups were getting together for the first time, my untrained ears heard "noice". John knew what the end result would be and we as proud parents were always blessed with a magnificant concert. Our family still chuckles at the memory from years ago when Sarah was his student. She was playing a homework piece and in the middle of it John left the room. She thought his mind was on something else but when she played a wrong note John called out from another part of the studio, "No Sarah, that's supposed to be an A minor!". He didn't miss a note. We will miss him Gwen and we will miss seeing you work as a team. We will always be thankful for what you both have meant to us.

Our sincere condolences to Gwen and family.
May beautiful memories bring you strength at this difficult time of your great loss.
I am so thankful for the wonderful memories that John Lummen has provided for me by his dedication and love to music that I enjoyed at the Christmas concerts. I was always in awe of the endless hours he dedicated to prepare the children for these concerts. I was so proud to watch my children participate and grateful to John to provide the opportunity for all the kids to perform. I have CDs of each Christmas concert over the years and play them continuously each Christmas season.
John Lummen has provided lasting memories and will never be forgotten.
With sincere sympathy,
Liz, John, Tommy, Jennifer and Ashlee Willoughby

John was a great inspiration through the music he loved to play and the great person he was. He will always be remembered. My deepest sympathies to Gwen and her family.
You're in my prayers.
"One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord,

It has been a long time since we have shared a tea together but I have always had you and John in my thoughts. I am deeply sorry to learn of John's passing. I was honoured to teach in the same music studio those many years ago, seeing his gift of bringing out the best in his students.

Dear Gwen,
My name is Connie Dixon and I was a piano student of John's from what seems 100 years ago. I currently live in Kitchener but I have family in St.Catharines.
Recently my sister informed me that John was diagnosed with cancer. I was very sad to hear the news but not as sad as hearing that John had passed away so soon after hearing that he was ill. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
John was a very patient teacher and I learned a true appreciation for music from him. He was a good teacher and I regret I didn't tell him so personally. Unfortunately I have not kept up with my piano playing but I have promised my children that I will "get back to the ivory keys" and also teach them, SOMEDAY. Today is that someday.
My deepest sympathy to you Gwen. I will think of John often when running scales and arpeggio's.
Connie Dixon

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of John. John was such a support and inspiration to so many of us in the music world. John and Lolita Hale and I had a small group a few years back named Seraphim Trio. John was so supportive to anyone who wanted to further their music career and he helped me a great deal. He will be truly missed. Prov.3:5
