Christie, Robert (Bob)
At the St. Catharines General Hospital- NHS on Friday June 22, 2007 in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Marlene (Batte) and loving father of Rosemarie Huber, Pat, Tom and Rob (Erin) Christie. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Heidi, Genevieve, Gabrielle and Hayden. Brother of Peter (Pam) and Edward (Iris) Christie both of London ON. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Olive Christie. Graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, he was employed by the Town of Walkerton as director of Municipal Recreation from 1959-1963 then by the City of St. Catharines as assistant director of recreation from 1963-1966. Bob was then appointed by the City of St. Catharines as director of recreation from 1966 to 1994 until his retirement in 1993. Bob served on the Society of Directors of Municipal Recreation of Ontario on all major committees and ultimately as president. He received fellowship designation in 1974. He has received all awards granted by the society. Bob has also served with Lincoln County Board of Education's Advisory Vocational Committee, First Advisory Board for the Carousel Players, Niagara Regional Summer Games, City Centennial Committee, 150th Anniversary of the Welland Canal Committee, Ontario Winter Games, Executive Committee of the South Western Regional Physically Handicapped Games, First Vice-President of the Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation 78-80, Henley Regatta Chairman 79-80, Ridley Grad Boat Club, Commissioner of Henley Regatta 86-87, General Manager of Canada's National Rowing Team 81-84, Manager of the Canadian Olympic Rowing Team 84 and a Dancer in the National Ballet of Canadians in the 1950's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and a very avid traveller. Bob's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME 585 Carlton Street on Monday 7-9 pm. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held in St Alfred's Church on Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 11 am. Cremation to follow with inurnment at a later date in Walkerton. Vigil prayers will be recited at the funeral home Tuesday at 3 pm. If desired memorial donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or Niagara Wellspring.
