Obituary of Sidney Aloian

ALOIAN, SIDNEY "Setrag" April 25, 1918-August 26, 2005 . Our dear father died peacefully, sitting in the sun at his home yesterday morning on Old Coach Road at 87 years of age. He was husband to Rose nee Boyagian for over 60 years, loving father of Ken (Sharon) and Val (Dushan Puharich), cherished grandfather to Lisa (Greg) Gautier, Molly Aloian, Ani Aloian McPhee, Mila and Marcus Puharich. Uncle Sid is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Sylvia, Shirley, Vivien, Billy, Sharon, Mike, Vaughn, Charlotte, Christine and Kevin and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his big sister Annie Krekorian, brothers Bill and Vartan, nephews Bobby and Harry and grandson Dallas Puharich. Dad lived his whole life in St. Catharines and was well-known and admired for his many and varied talents. As pitcher for the Crystal's Senior A hardball team, he bedazzled many opponents/fans striking out 17 of 24 batters and playing with major leaguers like Sal Magley and Fergie Jenkins. He was also a great golfer and horseshoe player at Pt. Dalhousie in his later years. Our father built our house and furniture with his own hands and drafted their design. He worked as a carpenter, draftsman, and realtor and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He could do anything! A memorial service will be held in the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Monday August 29th at 2:00pm. The family will welcome friends from 12 - 2. After the service, please join us in the fellowship room to share memories (please bring a story or a photo) to celebrate dad's life. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if friends who wish, make memorial donations to St. Gregory's Armenian Church on Carlton St.
