Obituary of Kenneth Ludlow
Ludlow, Kenneth "Copper" - It is with profound sadness that we announce the preaceful passing of Ken Ludlow on February 13, 2011. The son of Fred and Jessie (Mitchel) of Tilt Cove, Newfoundland. Ken was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia in 1928. He was lovingly married to Jeanne (nee Fraser) for 55 years until her death in 2002. He is survived by his son, Ken and his wife Susan (nee Young) and his daughter Merle Reid and her husband Chris. Ken was also the proud grandfather of Jesse Reid and Simone Ludlow and great grandfather of Lucas and Zachary Reid. Ken was predeceased by his sisters Emma, Florrie and Eve and brothers Allan "Gus", Frank, Nelson, Gordon, Ross, Fred, and Ralph. He is survived by sisters Pearl and Jean. Ken moved from Cape Breton to St. Catharines in 1947, where he became employed by General Motors (still called McKinnon Industries at the time). He began as an oiler and by 1974 was in charge of the foundry's maintenance department as its superintendent. He retired in 1985. Ken lived a rich and varied life. He held the welter weight Golden Glove title for the Maritime provinces, served as a Merchant Marine, sang in Country and Western bands, taught public speaking for the Dale Carnegie Association, was the President of Big Brothers Association, a member of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade. He and his wife Jeanne hosted countless parties in their rec room and backyard pool. Ken's generousity, thoughtfulness, and zany sense of humour will be greatly missed by family and many friends. Ken's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Eventide Home in Niagara Falls for their loving and sensitive care during the last year of his life.
Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeal Chapel, 585 Carlton Street on Wednesday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11am with burial to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Eventide Home in Ken's memory.
