My Grandmother...
My Grandmother lived her life taking care of her family and the people she loved. All of her life, she cared for her dear husband Chester, sons Henry my father and Stephen, daughter in law Jennifer, my mother and her grandchildren Kevin and I. Family meant the world to her and her endless love for us always shone brightly I think about my Grandma, I think about all the special memories I have of growing up, always excited to go over to grandma's house because I loved to spend time with her and Jaja while eating lots of treats and playing in her gardens and home. My grandmother loved her garden and especially roses. She took great pride in her home and this was evident by her white picket fenced lined property that held all of the roses and different flowers that were all the colours of the rainbow and was meticulously maintained by her hard work. I will always remember how beautiful her gardens smelled and I will remember going out with her to enjoy them with her while playing on the lawns. I have great memories of going to the greenhouses, butterfly conservatory and eating brunch out at the Big Wheel together as a family. Christmas and holidays were special and she always got us the perfect presents, while eating a cooked meal that she had prepared for us. Birthdays were celebrated while singing Stolat and enjoying coffee and cake marked a time when all of us would get together to celebrate and be happy as a family. My Grandmother loved to cook traditional Polish food like cabbage rolls and chrusty. I remember helping her make those delicious polish cookies in her kitchen and ensuring we had enough for weeks to come. My Grandma also took pride in the way she dressed and always loved to dress up and took her time getting ready for her family.
My grandmother had many traits that we all will remember her by. Her caring, kind and giving ways showed a generosity to all of the people who knew her best. Even though my Grandma lived with all men, she had a very strong will by always calling the shots and in her house it was her way or the highway and everyone respected that. There was no surprises as she always let everyone know what she was thinking and her opinion was usually heard whether you liked it or not! Her wisdom and strength came from overcoming so many events that had happened to her in her life, too many to mention here today but, I can say she was one of the strongest people I have ever known. She overcame so many obstacles to try to provide a good life for her family, she remains a pillar of strength and courage in my heart, and I have always thought of her in this way when I have needed inspiration to continue on while keeping my head held high. My Grandmother's wisdom shone through as our many talks with each other would always remind me to keep moving forward, to continue with my education and to love your family and friends while taking care of yourself. We shared lots of good times and memories together and she will always be one of my favourite mentors as she taught me to be proud of who I am and where I came from.
We all love you so much Grandma. Your love, strength, determination and spirit will live in our hearts forever and will continue to inspire us all.

Steve, Henry and family.
I just thought " Mom " (Irene) would live forever, she was always there. So Chester finally gets to see his sweetheart.
I didn't think about it until last night, but the dress scarf that I wear was given to me by Irene and Chester as a Christmas gift many years ago. Liked the colour scheme I guess.
One incident that is always top of mind was way back in the
summer of '81 or '82. I was driving by a bus stop near Woolco (long before it became Wal-Mart) and seeing them, stopped to pick them up to drive them home. They didn't want to be a bother so I almost had to kidnap them.
When we got to the house I helped carry their things in and Irene put on the kettle, but Chester was missing. (He had gone out to the garden with a large paper bag and filled it with some beef-steak tomatoes and cucmubers for me).
At that time I probably had about $ 10.- in my pocket before
the next pay coming in and Margaret and I had toast and tomato
sandwiches for the rest of the week.
Still have them the odd time in the summer for a quick supper using Hellman's (which Stevie had converted us to in recent years).
Then again, nothing tastes better than garden fresh.
From what I know of Irene's life - if they made a movie you might not believe it. After the Germans invaded Poland (Sep '39)
at some point she ended up in Siberia (not a vacation package of
her chossing I'm sure) and some how ended up in Mexico where she met the love of her life - Chester and ended up in Canada (here in St. Catharines).
Must have been something as well, with 2-boys coming of age in the late 60's " flower-power / hippydom " and all).
In those days everyone had from 2 to 5-kids, so the neighbourhood was always " busy ", and now all these " kids "
are hitting 60. Mmm, parent's revenge :) :)
Her and Chester saw the horse and buggy to a man on the
moon and then some - but the values and character their generation has added elegance and class to a world that is moving at the speed of light - I will always treasure memories of them both -
and you too Stevie.
Your friends John & Margaret Wilson
