To the Hicks family:
I am very sorry that I was unable to attend Mrs. Hicks' memorial but I wanted to share my thoughts. Mrs. Hicks was my teacher in Grade Two and although she was probably one of the sternest teachers I've ever had, she was always my favourite. I remember her purchasing brown notebooks for us to use in math class because she didn't feel the ones the school provided us with to be adequate. It seemed like such a simple gesture at the time but it just showed how wonderful and caring a teacher she was. Over the years when my mother or I would run in to Mrs. Hicks, she would always remember us and would marvel at how much time had gone by since she was my teacher. I am 27 now but I wanted you to know that Mrs. Hicks would always hold a very special place in my heart.
