Jean Robinson

Obituary of Jean Robinson

ROBINSON, JEAN (nee DesLoges)Peacefully, on February 26, 2005 in her 91st year, on "a sunny and cold Cochrane-like day." Beloved wife for 52 years of the late Scott Robinson. Loving mother of the late Glenn Alan (Spina Bifida, 1945), Pat Malicki and Richard (Windsor) and Ross Robinson and Anne (Niagara-on-the-Lake). Cherished grandmother of Paul Malicki and Marilyne (Quebec City), Sonya Malicki (Hamilton) and Scott and Carrie Robinson (Niagara-on-the-Lake). Great friend to many through sports, church work and volunteer activities. Jean was a fine athlete, enjoying golf, curling and skating. In 1938, she won the Northern Ontario Tennis association Ladies Single Championship. She was active as a member of the United Church Women, and in the golf, curling and bridge sections of the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. Jean was born in Low Bush, Ontario on the shore of Lake Abitibi, into a house with no running water or electricity. Moving at 5 years old to Cochrane, she eventually became a school teacher in the North. After marrying Lt. Scott Robinson during World War II in 1942, they lived in several parts of Canada, and traveled to many parts of the world. Always involved in local clubs and charities her optimism and positive attitude affected all around her. She talked about the 4' putt she made on the 6th hole, not the 3 footer she missed on the 8th. She enthused about the difficult take-out her Vice Skip made on the 5th End, and didn't whine about the easy draw she missed in the 7th End. Jean enjoyed a wonderful life, full of great people, neighbors, experiences and achievements. The family wish to thank the caring and professional staff of Niagara Arms Retirement Hotel, the St. Catharines General Hospital and the Hotel Dieu Hospital. Thank God we live in 2005 and in Canada, eh? Funeral arrangements are being handled by the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines, 905-937-4444. Funeral will be at Mountainview United Church, 150 Glendale Avenue, St. Catharines, Tuesday, March 1, at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. Instead of flowers, donations to the Spina Bifida Association or the Parkinsons Foundation will be appreciated.
