Dear Mr. Newberry and family,
I just wanted to send my condolences and to let you know you were in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Mrs. Newberry was my teacher as well as my volleyball coach way back when I was in grades 7 & 8 at St. Alfred's School around 1983/1984. She was one of my favourite teachers! She treated me like one of her special little friends. She helped me through so much during those years! We had so much fun on the volleyball court... you were both so kind and had the team come to your home for some laughter, fun and scary movies. I've even told my own children stories about Mrs. Newberry and those days... she never missed a beat! She was a very special person.
May God bless you and be with you in your time of sorrow... May he give you strength and hope to meet each new tomorrow.
Maria Valvano

It is with great shock and sadness that I have learned about the passing of an excellent teacher and wonderful person, Mrs. Jeanne Newberry.
She will always be remembered by me as the friendly, bubbly, energetic woman who helped bring me out of my "shell" by having me try out for a primary-junior cheerleading team back in 1973. Not only did I have the pleasure of having her as my teacher in grades seven and eight, I also was fortunate enough to work with her at Holy Cross many years later.
My sincerest sympathy to all of her family, especially to Mr. Newberry, her children and Mr. Bertrand. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
P.S.:
I'm sure my Dad, Mrs. Semenchuk and Mrs. Newberry are together right now, reminiscing about the "good old days" at St. Alfred's School...

I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Newberry. I was fortunate to be a student of hers at both St. James and Holy Cross. Her sincere passion for art and theatre was inspiring. I still think of her whenever I hear "Putting on the Ritz." She was a wonderful teacher.
With sincerest sympathy,

The welcome mat always extended when I lived in Hamilton, her rice and pork chop dinner and the time she yelled at Ted and I(probably more so me) for making too much noise are some of my pleasant memories of Jeanne.
Jeanne and John always opened their home to me, feeding me (no small task), letting me sleep over and just being family.
Unfortunately, like a star, we never realize how brightly someone shines until it is dark.
To John, Michelle and Ted my prayers and sympathies are with you and may we realize how blessed we were to have her as part of our lives.

Jeanne was my mother's roommate for the past several weeks at the Shaver Hospital. I looked forward to our daily visits, and considered you all part of my family. She was a dear, courageous soul, who made the most of every minute. Not only was she fighting her own battle, but she constantly thought of others. Jeanne spent her last days making scarves for countless nurses and visitors. My mother had a massive stroke, and Jeanne (and Michelle) were angels to her. They talked to my mom when we weren't there, called for a nurse when my mom needed it and kept me updated daily (while coping with her own illness as well). I only knew Jeanne for a short time but I have the feeling that this was very typical of her! My whole family will miss this extraordinary woman and her loving family. God bless you Jeanne. I know where you are now, your pain has ended.
Fondly,
Melissa

Loyal and honourable are the two adjectives that describe Jeanne. I taught with Jeanne at St. James and I had many dealings with her in ESL while she was teaching at Holy Cross. Jeanne and I were very good friends and enjoyed many laughs. Jeanne was so proud of you, Michelle and Ted and always spoke positively of you, John. When I visited her at the hospital she was so happy about your upcoming marriage, Ted and gave raving reviews of your fiancee. Jeanne has impacted thousands of young people.I offer your family my deepest sympathy.

As Jean said to us during a visit, paths may differ over a long period of time, but the good thoughts, remembrances and feelings of respect do not fade. We will always remember Jean as a joy filled individual and this memory will last as we have the honor of having one of her paintings hanging in our home ... given to us when our son Michael was born.
Jean was an asset in any situation to which she dedicated herself. Taken advantage of at times, she continued to remain faithful to the kids she served so willingly and with so much devotion and love.
She was a TEACHER !!
We know that her passing was expected , but we also know that the void created will never be filled. Time eases pain, but not being able to see a loved one face to face to express your love is a condition which is never really cured. She spoke of her undying love for her family ... a true constant in her life. Your memories and traditions will keep her spirit alive and present.
God bless you all ... John , Michelle, Ted and Dawn
