Obituary of Alf Gunnar Desserud
DESSERUD, Alf- Passed away on Thursday May 26th, 2011 at Hospice Niagara at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Mary for 61 years. Cherished father of Bruce, Karen (Randy) Berak and Shirley (Peter) Donald. Loving Grampy of Amanda and Lauren Lipischak. Special brother of Gudrun, Joan, Barbara, Sonja and Richard. Predeceased by his brother Per and his sister Margaret. Alf was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Carleton and York Regiment. He grew up in St. Lambert and attended Dawson College of McGill University. Alf worked for Power Corp. on various engineering projects until he joined the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1955. He transferred to St. Catharines in 1959 and has been here ever since and said " I have found the place I want to live" The family wish to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Redman and Dr. Hughes for all of their care. A special thank you to CCAC, the nurses at second floor Day Stay of the St. Catharines General Hospital and the nurses at St. Elizabeth and Hospice Niagara for caring for Alf on his last journey. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL. As per Alf's wishes their will be no visitation or service. A Celebration of Alf's Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Niagara or Alzheimer†™s Society would be appreciated by the family.
