Obituary of Albertje Hilletje Van Harten

Van Harten, Albertje Hilletje (Helen)- Passed away on September 3, 2003 at the St. Catharines General Hospital after a short illness, at the age of 71. Beloved and cherished wife of John of 50 years. Loving mother of Elsie Carty, Cathy and Bryan Hooke, Bea and Larry Borsato, John and Karen Van Harten. Wonderful and much-loved Oma to Michael, Rob, Laurie, T.J., Neil, Keith, Nadine and Nicole. Sister of Els Van Lieshout, Gerda, Gerard Henneman and Klaas (Margreet) de Vries, all in Holland. Sister-in-law of Nel Broerse and Mientje in Canada, Dirk (Tini) Van Harten, Co Arp, Cor Posthuma, Gon (Theo) Cuiper, all in Holland. Helen will also be remembered by her many nieces and nephews both here and in Holland and all those who called her "Oma", as well as her many friends. Predeceased by her parents Klaas and Clasina de Vries, her parents-in-law Pieter and Pietronella Van Harten and her son-in-law Mike Carty. Helen was on the nursing staff of the St. Catharines General Hospital before her retirement and was an active member of Club the Netherlands, was past president of the Folk Arts Council and was actively involved with the Multicultural Centre running the weekly bingo. Mrs. Van Harten is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, until Saturday 11am followed by the funeral service in the chapel. Cremation to follow. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
