Obituary of Fidelis Gerard (Gerry) Bates

BATES-FIDELIS GERARD (Gerry) On Wednesday December 26, 2001, at the St. CatharinesGeneral Hospital, at 74 years of age. Beloved husband of Shirley. Loving brother of Frank Bates, Eileen Steele both of St. Catharines and Bernadette Bond of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Joe, Albert and William, his sister Emerita MacDonald and sister in law Shirley. Gerry was the former Past President of the St. Catharines Fastball Association, Convenor of St. Catharines Minor Softball Association, Provincial Convenor with Ontario Association of Softball, he founded the former Golden Oldies League and was a member of the CAW # 199 Retirees Assoc. Mr. Bates is resting at GEORGE DARTE NORTH CHAPLE 585 Carlton St., until Saturday at 9:30am. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10:00am. Rite of commital will be held in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil prayers for the deceased will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 7:30pm. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial remembrances to the Hotel Dieu Dialysis Unit or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
