Obituary of Margaret Cecilia Shaw Bridgman
Shaw Bridgman, Margaret Cecilia (nee: Cunningham) R.N. After a lengthy illness passed away, on Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, in her 93rd year. Loving mother of Heather Little and Karen (Edwin) Chudzik. Cherished grandma of Ross (Jenny) Chudzik , Susan (Brock) Sipos, great grandma of Sophia and Quinn Sipos and Kayden Chudzik. Predeceased by her first husband Harold Shaw and husband Melvin Bridgman, her brother Leo Cunningham, sister Florence Curley, and son in law Dr. Walter Little. Margaret began her nursing practice as an outpost nurse in Peterborough ON where she met her husband Harold Shaw and developed her love for the outdoors, fishing and camping. Margaret went on to become Director of Nursing at Linhaven , retiring after 35 years of service. Following her retirement she was a snow bird residing in Valrico Florida six months a year for thirty years. Here she met her husband Mel and married at the age of 85. Margaret was very active in politics holding many positions including President of the Women's Liberal Association, and was the first woman to run for city council in St Catharines. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Julia's Church as well as the C.W.L. for 50 years.
Family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. On Sunday from 2-4 pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Julia Church on Monday at 10:30am. Private family inurnement in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you do a random act of kindness in memory of Margaret.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Loyalist for helping her maintain her quality of life, and the staff of the Hotel Dieu Shaver for supporting her dignity in her final days.
