Obituary of August Salden
SALDEN, August
On January 1st, August entered the hospital and had a lengthy struggle with various health complications. On his last day, his loved ones were with him and he quietly passed away on April 10th at the Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket at the young age of 88. He kept his sense of humour throughout his ordeal, and when asked how he was doing, he always replied "...still living", and now that he has passed on, we know he is still living.
Predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth Salden (2008). Father of Joanne Bachus-Salden and grandfather of Steven Yorke and Lisa Yorke. Truly loved by his Godchildren Ellen Buenen, and Lorei-An and Michael Lewis, who for the last 2 1/2 years were really devoted to his care and wellbeing. Also survived by his neighbours on St. Augustine Drive, who also provided love and support, especially Debbie York and Nadine Milano.
August had a love for Christmas. He designed and put up Christmas decorations and lights at his Florida home which drew media and people from miles around to view. The residents in Titusville, Florida will surely miss his displays.
Mr. Salden's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday, April 15th from 6-8pm. Funeral Liturgy without Mass will be celebrated in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 16th at 9:30am. Rite of Committal to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
If desired, memorial donations to the CNIB would be appreciated by the family.
A Memorial Tree was planted for August
