STOPKA, Ella (King, nee Mueller)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ella on Saturday May 5, 2012 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Charles. Ella will be remembered with love and affection by her niece Margot Matthee of Mannheim, Germany, her sister-in-law Nancy Haworth and her children Susan (John) Pruyn, Tom (Karen) Kretz, Jim (Linda) Kretz, Paul (Darlene) Kretz, Linda (Swede) Burak, Don Kretz, Mary Ann (Terry) Wright, Jane (R. George) Lindsay and Gordon (Tracey) Kretz. Ella will be sadly missed by her extended family of Canada and Germany and also by good friends. Ella was predeceased by her first husband John Donald King and her four sisters Josephina, Elsa, Maria and Emma all of Germany. Ella was born in Mannheim, Germany on August 25, 1926 to John and Hermine Mueller. She trained as a nurse in Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1953. She first worked as a nurse in Toronto at Sick Kids Hospital, then at Niagara Falls General Hospital, and finally as an X-ray technician at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines for 23 years before she retired. Ella has always been a woman of indomitable spirit, strength, with concern for others. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care Ella received at the Progressive and Palliative Care Units of the St. Catharines General Hospital. Ella will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. In accordance with Ella's wishes, cremation has taken place. Ella's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St., on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In memory of Ella, donations may be made to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.
