Obituary of Leonard Victor Gill
GILL, Leonard V.
Peacefully, at the Shaver Hospital on December 20, 2000 in his 77th year. Loving husband of Esme Mary. Loving father of Susan (John) and Peter (Sandie). Grandpa of Michael, Andrew, Kristen and Katie. Great-Grandpa to Matthew. Leonard was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the British Merchant Marine and Director of Engineering at the St. Catharines General Hospital for 25 years retiring in 1985. He founded the Travel Centre, Grantham Plaza, with Mary in 1975. After retirement he volunteered with C.E.S.O. travelling with Mary to the Carribean and China assisting developing countries. Mr. Gill was also the Past President of the St. Catharines Sea (Renown) and Air (23rd Squadron) Cadets, Past President and Life member of the St. Catharines Optimist Club, and member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association.
Mr. Gill is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. A service to celebrate his life will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 2:00pm. Cremation to follow. Visitation Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shaver Hospital Foundatio would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to all of the Doctors, Ambulance Personnel, Nurses and Staff of the General, Hotel Dieu, and Shaver Hospitals for their loving care over the past four months.
