Obituary of James C McNulty
McNULTY, James Carroll Patrick -passed into everlasting life April 2, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Margaret Kelly, brothers Neil, George and Joseph and sister Elizabeth.
Jim was in his 93rd year. He will be sadly missed by his children Michael, Brian (Madeleine), Mary, Joseph (Chris), Denis (Aline), and Teresa (Doug); his eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was a devout member of St. Alfred†™s and St. Julia†™s churches. Jim also served for many years on the Board of Directors at the Hotel Dieu Hospital.
Jim received a BA, BPHE, and MEd. He was the wingback on the University of Toronto Blues football team and he was twice decorated for combining athletic skill with academic excellence.
He was a WWII veteran. Jim joined the staff at the St. Catharines Collegiate where he coached and became head of the Phys-Ed department. His football teams won nine COSSA championships in 16 seasons culminating in 1950 when they won the prestigious Red Feather title as OSSA champions.
Jim served on the council for Grantham Township from 1957 to 1958, on the council for Lincoln County in 1959, and on the city council for St. Catharines from 1960 to 1962. He went on to become a Liberal MP from 1962 to 1972. During that time he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour.
It warmed Jim†™s heart when he received visits from his friends and former students. His family would like to thank Dr. Luce, Dr. Samosh, and the staff at Garden City Manor and Hotel-Dieu Shaver for their compassionate care.
Jim's family will receive visitors at the THE GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday April 6. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St.Julia's church on April 7 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital will be appreciated by his family.
