LAGROTTERIA, Antonia
On Thursday, October 31st , 2013, surrounded by her loving family, Antonia LaGrotteria passed peacefully into eternal life with God the Father.
Antonia was born on June 13th, 1920 in Monterosso, Calabro, Italy. Antonia will forever be remembered for her strength, generous heart and her unrelenting committment to her family. Beloved wife of the late Salvatore (1987) LaGrotteria. Much loved mother of the late Antonio (2012) and the late Domenic (1998) and his wife Sylvana, Francesca (Frank) DeStefano, Mary, Anne, and Lino (Leda). Cherished nonna of Paolo (Sheryl), Danny (Mary-Rose), Mario (Paula), David (Melanie), David DeStefano, Claudina (Gino) Fortino, Eric and Amanda Sabatini, Alisa, Adriana, and Andrew LaGrotteria. Antonia will also be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Sophia, Rhys, Aubrey, Samuel, Tessa, Macie, Marcus, Joshua, Nathan, Evan, Mario and Daniel. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and doctors at the St. Catharines General Hospital, particularly Dr. Eduard Buchner and Dr. E. Raimondo as well as her own grandchildren Dr. Danny LaGrotteria and Dr. David LaGrotteria whom she was proud of. A special thank you to Father Andrew Goodwin.
Antonia's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, on Saturday, November 2nd from 6:30 -9 p.m., and Sunday, November 3rd from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will take place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine Street, on Monday, November 4th at 11 a.m., with entombment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, 2250 Highway 20, Fonthill. Our mother always opened her heart (and kitchen) to many, especially to those in need and new immigrants to our country. If desired, memorial contributions to Community Care, St. Catharines would be appreciated by the family.
Mother
You have been our strength, the voice within our heads that has guided us through life each and every day. You will forever be in our thoughts and in our hearts.
