Obituary of Giambattista Ferrante

FERRANTE, Giambattista "John" Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the NHS- St. Catharines Site, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 52 years to Lina. Loving Pops of Luigi (Lucia), Angela (Luigi) Fratangelo and Fernanda (Harry) Krekorian . Proud Nonno of Laura, Ariana, Liana, Peter, Lucas, Jonathan and Melina. Giambattista will also be missed by his family and friends in Canada and Italy. Giambattista came to Canada in 1965, where he settled in St. Catharines. Giambattista worked for DeTecco Plasterers and the Port Weller Dry Docks retiring in 1992. Giambattista had a great passion for gardening and he especially enjoyed growing tomato plants and tending to his fig trees. He cherished his grandchildren and loved his Sunday dinners with his family. Giambattista will be remembered as a quiet, loving and caring man. A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the NHS- A 2 station C and the ER staff, for making him as comfortable as possible. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Alfred's Catholic Church, 272 Vine St., at 9:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be given to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
