Obituary of Anita Isobel Beaton

Beaton, Anita Isobel - Peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends at her home on December 31, 2013 at the age of 53 years. Survived by her loving mother Florence, sister Christena (Robbin) Thompson, brothers Johnny (Linda), Daniel, and Malcolm (Allison). Also survived by Aunt Mockey, nieces Jessica, Marissa and nephews Gerard and Ryan, many family members and special friends "The Gang" - you know who you are. Predeceased by her father Gerard. Born and raised in Cape Breton. She started her nursing career at St. Martha's School of Nursing, continuing on to work at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Later moved to St. Catharines and worked on the medical and I.C.U units of the St. Catharines General Hospital. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Turnbull and his amazing staff, Dr. Ryan D'Sa, Dr. Mel Hollidge and the many friends who visited Anita at the house during her fight with ALS. Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Service to celebrate Anita's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 11am. Burial will take place at a later date in Cape Breton. Memorial donations may be made to Dr. Turnball's ALS Clinic McMaster University Medical Centre, 1200 Main Street West, Division of Neurology 4U, Hamilton, Ontario L8N 3Z5, Phone: (905) 521-2100 in Anita's honour. Further arrangements will be entrusted to V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, Nova Scotia, B1H 4K4, 902-862-6439 to follow for a visitation on Friday January 10, 2013 between 2-4 and 7-9pm and a Funeral Mass on January 11, 2013 at 10 am at The Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue.
