Obituary of James Robert Newman

NEWMAN, James Robert "Jim" After a valiant fight against cancer and many complications, Jim passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the age of 56. Beloved father of Jamie; loving son of Norris and Elaine Newman of St. Catharines; cherished brother of Jan (Mike Roberts) of Welland, Dan of St. Catharines, Don (Sara) of Saskatoon and Jay (Eve) of Kitchener; and proud uncle of 10 nieces and nephews. Jim will be deeply missed by his many friends, especially Craig (Liz) Mosher and Jeff (Maria) Pitchot, and his loyal clients throughout the Niagara region. Jim was the epitome of one who lived life on his own terms – a richly talented man who was able to parlay his intelligence, skills and passions into his own businesses. Our ‘entrepreneur extraordinaire’ was a gifted musician, a creative caterer and a superb renovator and builder. Jim’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Kasey Cresswell and Alex Novis for their kindness and strong support during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, a contribution to the Jim Newman Memorial Scholarship, to be awarded annually at the St. Catharines Music Festival, would be appreciated by Jim’s family.
