Obituary of James McNicol
McNICOL, James "Jim"
1945-2014
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Jim, at the Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday, June 18th surrounded by his loving family.
Loving and beloved husband of Margaret since 1966 and proud and loving father of his 3 precious daughters, Elaine (Kevin) Caldwell, Lorna (Gary) Miller and Ruth (Adam) Sharp. Proud and adoring Papa to Megan and Mark Caldwell and Cora and Ella Sharp, who truly were the light of his life. He will be missed by his many friends. Predeceased by his parents Jim and Christina McNicol, parents-in-law Charlie and Peggy Johnston, and his longtime buddy Willie Cummings.
Jim and his family emigrated to Canada in 1977 to build a new life and spent his entire career as a talented and respected Engineering Designer and Project Manager both in Canada and the U.S.
Jim gave the ultimate gift of life through organ donation.
He was an avid reader and collector and was happiest at home puttering around. Those who knew Jim knew him as a quiet thoughtful man who brought his unique Scottish wit to any situation.
Although he spent so many happy years in Canada, a large piece of his heart always belonged in Scotland.
The family extends thanks to Niagara EMS and the St. Catharines General Hospital for their excellent care. They also thank the Hamilton General Hospital CCU for their exceptional care and compassion.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Jim's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, June 23rd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, June 24th at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
