Obituary of Miriam Murgatroyd Bickley

BICKLEY, Miriam Murgatroyd Together forever, Never apart. Maybe in distance, But never in heart. Peacefully at her home in St. Catharines, on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at exactly 91 1/2 years old. Beloved wife of Trevor Bickley, for 51 years, and previously of Stephen Gilbert Eaton (deceased, 1958). Loving mother of Mary (Mick) Jenkinson, Thomas (Esther) Eaton, Janice Eaton, William (Mary) and Rosalind (Tony), and “Nana” of 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sister of Elsie (the late Walter) Foulds. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Elsie Miller, her brother Thomas and sister Louie (Albert) Hayes. Originally from Yorkshire, England, Miriam survived the Second World War in her homeland, and never tired of telling her unique history to her many descendants. She moved to Canada in 1976 with Trevor and her younger children, and lived here for 37 years. She loved her garden, playing the piano, reading, and keeping in touch with her friends and family. A vibrant, feisty woman who always put her family first, Miriam’s kind and generous heart touched all who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. She will be sorely missed, and always lovingly remembered. Special thanks to the personal support workers and nurses of the CCAC, Red Cross, St. Elizabeth Centre and ParaMed, whose assistance allowed Miriam to spend her last days at home with her family. Also, thanks to Jessica Bickley, Miriam’s granddaughter and Brock nursing student, for her own assistance and loving dedication. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, July 6th from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 7th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, 1483 Lakeshore Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
