Obituary of Roman Doszczyn
DOSZCZYN, Roman
Roman was born in Berezhany, Ukraine on December 10th, 1922. His apprenticeship as a blacksmith was interrupted by the Second World War, however this disruption lead him to Canada, the country he would call home for the remainder of his life. Although proud of his Ukrainian heritage, Roman loved his new country and was proud to be a Canadian. Always thankful for the many opportunities it provided for himself and his family. Shortly after arriving in Canada Roman found employment with Anthes Imperial, but more significantly, met and married his loving wife, Maria Dzus in 1950. A few years later his family expanded to include two children, Patricia and Zenko, who he watched grow, graduate and become successful in their respective professions. His family continued to expand with the welcoming of his son-in-law Mark and daughter-in-law, Martha. It wasn’t long before Roman’s family expanded with the birth of the four grandchildren: Anthony, Nadia, Bob and Orest. Having finished working at W.S. Tyler in 1987, Roman had time to warmly welcome and encourage each grandchild to pursue their chosen paths in life. The entire family gathered to celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Roman and Mary in 2000. Unfortunately in 2006, his beloved wife Mary passed away unexpectedly. Roman relied on his family to take him through this difficult time and found joy through the success of his children and grandchildren. Roman’s faith was strong. He was an active participant of St Cyril and Methodius Church and the Ukrainian senior community. Both groups will miss his presence at their weekly bingos and Masses. Roman was proud of his Ukrainian heritage, his country Canada, and his family. He shared this pride with his family and thereby ensuring that his 92 years will be remembered fondly by the loving family he has left behind.Roman is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.
