Obituary of Dmytro Baraniuk
BARANIUK, Dmytro "Matt"
Passed away with his loving wife Olga and children by his side on October 23rd, 2014 at the NHS-St. Catharines Site at the age of 89. Beloved husband for 65 years to Olga, and cherished and much loved father of Christine (Martin) Jackson, Larry and Glen (Jackie). Loving Dido of Amy and Adam (Jenn) Allcock, and Malaree and Gavin Baraniuk, and Great Dido of Aden Allcock. Survived by his brothers Danny (Cathy), Isadore (Chris) and sisters Jessie Kozachenko, Nellie Avakian, Lil Baraniuk and Cernie (Joe) Meszaros. He will be missed by brothers and sisters in law Leo (Sophie) Bachynski, Lois (late Roy) Bachynski, and Jenny (late Bill) Bachynski. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Nick and Mary Baraniuk, brothers Elias, Victor, Archie, sisters Joanie, Millie (John), and Sonia (Ted) and sister in law and brother in law Natalie and Edward Keenan.
Matt was a founding member of St. John the Theologian Ukrainian Catholic Church and he enjoyed volunteering with his fellow kitchen workers. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and K of C Council #1394.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Chauhan and the second floor nursing staff at the NHS-St Catharines Site, CCAC and the Canadian Red Cross for their care and compassion.
Matt worked with his family on the family farm on Geneva Street for over 45 years. During the off season, he worked at Champion Fuels, Ultramar Water Treatment Company and after retirement, he worked 15 years at the George Darte Funeral Chapel.
Matt always had a smile for everyone that he was in contact with.
Matt's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, October 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Panachyda will be recited in the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 pm. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. John the Theologian Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Road on Tuesday, October 28th at 10 am. Entombment will follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations to St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.
