Obituary of Monique Juliette Backman
BACKMAN, Monique Juliette (nee Leger)
Peacefully passed away into God's loving arms, on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Linhaven Home, in her 76th year after a long valiant struggle with cancer. Monique will be deeply missed by her devoted and beloved husband of 53 years, Mel. Cherished and loving mother of Doug (Trish), Karen (Rick) Oreskovich and Eric. Proud G'ma (grandma) of Nicholas, Stephan, Andrew and Lauren Oreskovich, Christopher and Lilianna Backman. Dear sister of Pierre (Monique) and the late Normand (Carol) Leger. Monique has now been reunited with her parents Simone and Ferdinand. Born in Montreal, Monique was very proud of her French heritage. She worked at Sears where she was a highly respected employee and friend to all that knew her. Monique cherished her family, enjoyed travelling and outdoor life. Her greatest passion was being her grandchildren's greatest fan in all of their endeavours. She will be greatly missed by all. A special thank you to the staff at Linhaven for the compassion and dedication that was given to Monique. In accordance with Monique's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 1-4 p.m. Prayers will be said at 3:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Victoria Lawn Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations given to Linhaven Home or to the Alzheimer Society- Niagara Region would be appreciated.
