Obituary of Albert Harold Berry

BERRY, Albert Harold "Huck" August 4, 1936 to January 2, 2015 After a long courageous battle with cancer, Huck slipped away peacefully from the midst of his family. He is survived by his loving wife Daphne, his children Mary-Lou (Larry) Slobodian, David Berry (Sandra) and Kathryn Welstead, as well as his grandchildren David (Shauna), Derek (Shelby), Bonnie (Peter) Slobodian; Hailey and Hunter Berry; Nick (Bailey) and Danielle Welstead. He also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends in his community and beyond. Known fondly to many as the "Mayor of Port Dalhousie", where he was born and raised, Huck loved and served his community well. For 39 years, he was a member of the Port Dalhousie Volunteer Fire Department, acting as President of the association for several years. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 350 and was a popular coach of minor softball for many years. Huck retired from the St. Lawrence Seaway after 30 years of service. A special thank you to Jackie and Ian Crow for their love and support. Cremation has taken place, Huck's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 6, from 10-11 a.m. A celebration of Huck's life will follow the visitation, in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
