Obituary of Andrew Melnyk

MELNYK, Andrew Passed away peacefully January 5, 2015, at the Meadows of Dorchester Retirement Manor, Niagara Falls, in his 100th year. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Rose Kit. Predeceased by his wife Anne Melnyk, his parents Michael and Anne Melnyk ,his brothers and sisters and their spouses; Mary and Steve Natyna, John and Jean Melnyk, Sophie and Walter Firman, Jean and Norman Baldock, Olga and Joe Klym, Deacon John Kit, Walter and Joyce Melnyk. There are numerous nieces and nephews who will mourn the loss of their Uncle Andy. He was born in Skylake, Manitoba on December 13, 1915. He worked in Northern Ontario until he enlisted and proudly served in the Canadian Army during WWII from 1942-45. He settled in Toronto and owned his own construction company until his retirement. He enjoyed many passions including hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, extensive travelling throughout North America and especially entertaining family and friends at his cottage in Bobcaygeon. He was a member of St. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Myrhorod Ukrainian Seniors Club. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the endless care and compassion for Andrew at the Meadows of Dorchester Retirement Manor. Andrew's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Sunday January 11th, from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. with Panachyda recited at 7:00 p.m. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, January 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 14 Rolls Ave. followed by the Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Church Building Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
