Obituary of Gregory Thomas Romak
ROMAK, Gregory Thomas
Greg lost his 3 year battle with cancer on February 13, 2015 in Madison, Alabama. He leaves daughters Holly and Katie, and joins his son Derek in Heaven.
What can you say about Greg? He was a one of a kind father, son, brother, friend, Tool and Die professional, and farmer. Everyone felt happier and wiser being with him. He had a knack for making life-long friends and being there for those that needed help.
Greg was born to John and Phyllis Romak on November 26, 1952. He grew up in St. Catharines with his lucky siblings John (Linda), Patt Rosewarne (Gord), Joanne Teoh (Kevin), Michele Fisher (Brian) and Marianne (Tim). He attended West Park Secondary School where rowing and cars were his passions, and made many friends that were there for him until the end. He won Henley and Canada Games medals and continued his love for rowing by coaching and rowing in the St. Catharines Rec Rowing program.
Greg married Charlotte (nee Pogorelec), and they created and ran Romak Farms on Seventh Street. Many of you have probably enjoyed the fruits and vegetables of their labour. He also worked at Hayes Dana as a Tool and Die maker, with a tight group of friends that still have many stories to tell.
In 1995, Greg married Karen (nee Seeley) and they had 3 wonderful children: Derek, Holly and Katie. They were the lights of his life. The Romak clan moved to Alabama in 2004 for "an adventure" and the 2 growing seasons it offered. He developed a large number of very loyal friends, and worked for Matcor - Matsu. Special thanks to Juli Gerrits and the Matcor - Matsu family for their "above and beyond the call of duty" support.
Greg's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, February, 24th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 25th at St. John the Theologian Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Road at 11am. Cremation will follow the service.
The family would greatly appreciate donations be made to fund the purchase of a rowing shell in Greg's name. Greg loved the idea of continuing to be connected to the rowing community. Please contact the George Darte Funeral Home, or The St. Catharines Rowing Club to make a donation.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
