Obituary of Demetre (Jimmy) Jim Sfyras

SFYRAS, Demetre (Jimmy) – Born in Athens Greece, February 19th 1942, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate, loving family on Tuesday, June 16th, 2015 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Alexandra (Halkidis) for 48 years. Cherished father of Marie Sfyras, Margaret (Spiro) Piliouris, Gina (David) Dmytrow and Patricia (Jeremy) Harb. Loving Papou of Tanios, Mitchell, Élena, Carter, Jimmy and little Lauren (Koko). Special brother of Christo (Angeliki) Sfyras and Petro (Lika) Sfyras. Demetre, or Jimmy, as most in Canada knew him, was a giant of a man, a complete loving & generous soul who loved life to its absolute fullest. He was known for his love of family and especially love for his grandchildren, his sense of humour and his innate ability to keep people happy and make them feel welcome. Dad, we will love you forever and we will never forget your beautiful blue eyes and happy smile. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all the nurses and doctors at the Juravinski Hospital and the St. Catharines Hospital for all their care and compassion. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday, June 19th from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. A Prayer Service will take place on Friday at 7:30p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 20th at 11a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated by the family.
